Tanker static grounding device: introducing ISOIL MT40 System

Tanker Device

In loading and unloading truck operations, friction between solids and liquids could generate dangerous sparks. To ensure safety, it is necessary to keep the tank grounded using a so-called grounding device. For this goal, ISOIL provides the MT40 system.

MT40 tanker static grounding device: features

When a tank truck is loaded or unloaded with liquid or gas, the road tanker could accumulate electrostatic charges that could cause dangerous events in hazardous areas. That is why it is essential to ensure safety during loading/unloading operations and using a tanker static grounding device avoids many risks thus granting safe procedures. n.

The MT40 grounding system can easily monitor the tank truck: a clear green flashing light shows that the loading/unloading process can be performed safely. MT40 by ISOIL is able to monitor the connection at all times and to stop operations if a connection is interrupted. The device also performs capacitive verification, thus checking that the ground clamp has actually been connected to a tanker truck and not to other devices, thus preventing possible misuse.

The MT40 is equipped with an RS485 serial port, through which the system can be connected to external devices with ModBus RTU protocol.

How does a tanker static grounding system work?

ISOIL MT40 has a ground monitor with an LED display that shows the status of the connection and all the necessary information, and a cable with a clamp, to connect the monitor to the ground. The system can also be provided with accessories such as a tester for periodic control of the settings and performance, a toolkit software for system diagnostics, and a cable reel.

As regards the operation, after having verified that the clamp(s) has/have been connected to a tank truck and not any metal object, the MT40 tanker static grounding system performs ground connection through a dedicated internal relay. After that, it checks during the entire process that the impedance value does not exceed 10 Ω as recommended by the reference standards.

Applications

MT40 is ideal for different applications:

  • Loading/unloading of road tankers, rail tankers, IBCs (Intermediate Bulk Containers), and drums;
  • On-board installation of tank trucks to ensure the safety of fuel unloading operations at gas stations;
  • Filling/emptying of FIBC (Flexible Intermediate Bulk Container) in powder and granulate processing.
